The Local Area

Beare Mill CL Campsite is surrounded by farm land. A network of footpaths can be accessed from the campsite. A footpath or country lane can be taken for a 20 minute walk to the Market Town of Crediton in Mid Devon.

The Market town of Crediton is full of independent shops with coffee shops, antique shops and shops selling daily necessities and take-aways etc. There are two supermarkets ; Tesco and Morrison’s located on the edge of the town.

Crediton hosts a bi-weekly farmers market on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 10-1pm. The market sells local food and is often a busy and sociable event. Crediton Town celebrates its festival in June of each year and puts on many events and local flags line the High Street for the month.

The surrounding area has many pubs selling good food. In Crediton `The Three Littles Pigs` is in the Town Square. Further afield in local villages; `The Beer Engine` at Newton St Cyres ` `The Lamb Inn` at Sandford and `The Agricultural Inn at Brampford Speke are popular. There is a choice of coffee shops, and I would recommend the chocolate Brownies at Coco’s!

Contact details of local takeaway’s and pubs are on site on a board in the ‘Laundry Room’.

The campsite is a good central location to explore the whole of Devon. The start of Dartmoor National Park is approximately 10 miles away with the stunning moors, and tors to investigate such as Hay Tor. The South coast is 20 miles with Sandy Beaches on Exmouth or pebble beaches at Budleigh Salterton.  The North Devon Coastline is 40 miles with beautiful long sandy beaches such as Woolacombe. These beaches are excellent for body boarding or surfing. There is a new rail line from Crediton opening Nov 2021 to link to Dartmoor, The railway station is a 20 min walk along the river path from the CL.
