Local walks from the campsite.

Route 1

Walk to the top of the lane, past Beare Farm and Beare Hayloft. 

2 options: take the footpath straight in front, a steep walk to the top of Breakheart or turn right towards Salmonhutch, just before the railway crossing, there is a footpath on your left to the top of Breakheart. At the top of Breakheart, you have a great view of the caravan site! 

Carry straight on into the next field, take a right, through a small gate. 

Walk towards the white cottage, through 2 fields. 

Continue down the lane on your left, pass Yeoland House on your right. Keep walking down the track and you will see the secondary school Queen Elizabeth’s above. Continue down the lane. At the end you will arrive into a housing estate take the pavement on your left and follow down the hill, until you come to Barnfield Stores, (it was a shop, once upon a time!)

Turn left just after Barnfield Stores and walk through a carpark with some flats on your left. In the far corner on the left, there are some steps.Walk down the steps, these take you right into Crediton High Street. 

Route 2

Walk to the top of the lane, past Beare Farm and Beare Hayloft. 

2 options: take the footpath straight in front, a steep walk to the top of Breakheart or turn right towards Salmonhutch, just before the railway crossing, there is a footpath on your left to the top of Breakheart. At the top of Breakheart, you have a great view of the caravan site! Walk through a few fields (5 or 6) along the ridge. At the end you will turn right and follow a track until you come to a set of steps called Tin Pot ( this track can be muddy ). Follow the steps down and turn right at the bottom and you will arrive at the top of Crediton. 

Route 3. 

Walk to the top of the lane, past Beare Farm and Beare Hayloft. Turn left at the top of the lane and walk along 1/3 of a mile until you reach 2 old cottages on your left. Cross over the road and face the hill and walk up the hill with ‘Tuckers Meadow on your left. Walk up Westwood Hill to the top of Crediton Town. 

Directions to the Square in Crediton :

When you reach the high street , If you turn left and walk past The pet shop , then cross the road at the traffic lights , The square runs parallel behind and can be reached by walking down the road before the Ship Inn. The Square has coffee shops , The Baobab Cafe for a take way or eat in and the Three Little Pigs for pub food. 

Directions to the campsite from Crediton: 

From the High Street walk up the High Street past with Lloyd’s bank on your left, pass Landscore Stores into Old Landscore, on the left hand side pavement. 

You will see a postbox on your left, cross over the road. Greenway is on your left and you will see Early Birds Nursery straight in front of you.

Turn left and you will see some steps. This is Tinpot. Climb up to the top of the steps.

At the top of the steps, turn right. Follow the lane as it meanders around. 

You will come to a field, turn right and continue all the way along the ridge, across 3 fields and you will arrive back at Breakheart and will see the caravan site. 

To the Train Station:

Walk to the top of the lane, past Beare Farm and Beare Hayloft. Turn right towards Salmonhutch, past the railway crossing and the cottages. After the pink cottage you will see a turn style. Take the left and follow the public foot path all along by the river , straight ahead until you reach a lane at the end. Take the right turning and straight down the lane . At the end you will reach a row of houses called Forton . Turn left and cross over the road . You will see the railway crossing ahead and the railway station can be reached by a bridge at the end of the road. 

Trains go hourly to Exeter , some stop at Newton St Cyres right outside The Beer Engine ( for good pub food). 

Circular walk  – 3 miles 

Walk to the top of the lane, past Beare Farm and Beare Hayloft. 

2 options: take the footpath straight in front, a steep walk to the top of Breakheart or turn right towards Salmonhutch, just before the railway crossing, there is a footpath on your left to the top of Breakheart. At the top of Breakheart, you have a great view of the caravan site!   Carry straight on into the next field, take a right, through a small gate. 

Walk towards the white cottage, through 2 fields. Continue down the lane on your left, pass Yeoland House on your right. Keep walking down the track and you will see the secondary school Queen Elizabeth’s above. Continue down the lane.  At the end of the path  take the pavement on the right ( with QE school in the left )  cross over and after the first house you’ll see a footpath sign , take the right turning down this gravel path and walk to the end, continue straight at the cross way footpath sign on the grass track to the end . At the end of the track take the footpath diagonally across the field to the right then follow the hedgerow to the end of the field. At the end follow the track around yo the right all the way to the end. Follow the road down four Mills Land past KJM Services on your right to the railway and cross over. At Forton take the left footpath by the row of brick cottages , cross over at the footpath sign on your right and walk down the end of this lane. Take the footpath into the field straight on at the footpath sign and walk through 3 fields alongside the river to Salmonhutch. At Salmonhutch take a right turn past the pink cottage and straight over the railway up the lane to the top of the lane leading to the campsite.
